Probabilism, Graduality & Gradualism, Oh My!

The goals of the spiritual life leading to a Christ encounter reflect the ideals of
immutable divine and natural laws, which articulate the substance of precepts, their
message.
The developmental and contextual natures of personal growth implicate a law of
graduality, which reflects the different forms of precepts, the transmission of the
message tailored toward differences that necessarily will inhere in different persons as
different types of receivers, who will, ordinarily, only progressively fulll the law, ergo
variously and presumptively inculpable, hence a reservation of judgment, canonically.

Gradualism of the law does not refer to divine and natural laws but to positive laws. It
does not refer to a change in ideals, a change in substance or change of message. It
refers to varying degrees of coercive influence used in positive laws to optimize their
harmonization with divine and natural laws toward the end of best realizing their ideals
and values, dynamically adapting such influence to 1) the moral development or 2)
degree of complicity of the law's subject, as well as 3) any need to interdict a behavior to
mitigate various consequences to others in the future, combined with an aim toward 4)
retributive as well as 5) restorative justice.
Neither a rubust 1) moral probabilism nor a 2) law of graduality nor a 3) gradualism of
law would necessarily deprive the natural or divine laws of either their binding force or
compelling character. Arguably, the exhortation has elements of all three.

While I nd some of those analyses quite on the mark in that regard, they don't, in my
view, require an apology because the document's gradualism of law is much more highly
nuanced than the vulgar caricature of same that we'd all reject.
