Introduction to the Project

The main purpose of the project is to maintain the record of students. This database also
serves as the fee collection software as well as computerized result card. The inputs are
taken by the Microsoft Access Forms and these inputs are stored in different tables at the
back end. This database project can also be used to perform any non-routine activity
related to student. For example, seating plans in the College Exams can be prepared using
this database. In general, this project is capable of performing all the activities related to
the Student Information System.

Introduction to previous system

The institute was maintaining the record of the students, manually i.e. in the form of
different files etc. And prepare their result on result cards.

The Problem
The problem with the previous system was that it was very difficult to locate the record
of any particular student because a lot of files have to be searched to locate the desired
record. And also when changes were required to make then whole the file system was
disturbed. For example if the address of any student is changed then that address of the
student in the college will also have to be changed so, cutting, erasing etc. were used to
update the system. Secondly, the record have to be located at more than one place so it
was very difficult to maintain that system.
