I see myself fitting into the HIM profession and being a valuable asset to a coding

2. Where will I be in two years professionally?
In two years, I will be happily employed in a facility, and working towards achieving
continued educational and professional goals.
3. What will it take to achieve the above goal?
To achieve my professional goals, I will need to obtain a working environment in which I
will feel comfortable, and feel as though I have the ability to grow and to continue
learning additional coding tools. For education, I will need to select a higher learning
facility and work towards obtaining a Bachelors Degree.

2020 performing?

Ganion 2

I see the individual completing tasks that are more varied than what I have learned to
undertake. The possibilities are endless because the health information management
profession is ever evolving.
7. How would I change the HIM (HIM) curriculum to meet the challenges of the year
2020?
I would update the academic material be ensuring it is current. I would not require
materials or lessons that speak of current trends as though they are a part of a future
time. I would also manipulate the material in a way that it does not overlap excessively.
8. Describe in detail how you believe the electronic health record will impact the
HIM profession in 2020.
I believe the electronic health record will drastically change the care that patients will
receive. I believe less sentinel events will occur because more physicians will have
access to the patients individual care plans. I also believe patients will have more
accountability regarding their health and more access to their individual health care
plans. In 2020, the communication between patient and physician will be drastically
improved.
9. Describe your feelings about the HIM field now compared to how you felt when
you entered the program.
When I began the HIM program, I was very overwhelmed and uncertain of my own
success. I still have moments of doubt, but feel more confident in my abilities. The HIM
field can be overwhelming, because it is so multifaceted and always changing, however,
it is a career that can be mobile and rewarding.
