Objective:
Students will be able to create abstract art.
Students will be able to compare the similarities of their artwork to that
of Kandinskys.
Materials Needed:
CD player
8 different genres of CDs
Paper folded in fourths
Crayons
Beginning (10 minutes):
I will begin by giving students and introduction to abstract art and the
artist Kandinsky. I will give students a background on his life as an
artist and show students examples of his work on the projector.
I will then give students directions of the art project that they will be
doing. I will model the art project for the students.
Middle (30 minutes):
The students will make line stokes in one of the boxes on the paper
based on the way that the music playing makes them feel. There will
be 8 different songs from different genres of music. Some will be fast
and upbeat, some will be slow and solemn. The students should have 8
very different pieces of abstract art at the end of the project.
End (5 minutes):
We will debrief by talking about the way that music makes us feel and
the effect it can have on art. Students will also share the similarities of
their artwork to that of Kandinskys.
