At the City Council meeting, there were about 8-9 council members present, I
witnessed a lot of talking, presenting, discussing, negotiating, and approving. The whole —
‘meeting was based on speakers who had a presentation or a topic to talk about. The
Council members would either consent to it, share their opinion or ask questions about it.
think the decisions in our local city council are made democratically because we have a
say in making decisions about affairs. The meetings are led by a mayor but are involved
Z vith individuals who bring up the affairs. In the decision-making process, we determine
what needs to be improved and how it should be improved. City Council simple motions
it, and then proceeds the request.
Some positives of the city council meeting for the community were that council
‘members weren't bickering or arguing repeatedly. They simply shared their opinion and
moved on. The meeting was straightforward and not too long. Another positive thing for
the community was that people were given time to talk about their issue or give feedback
regarding an issue. Some negatives of the council meeting for the community was that
the issues were too boring or uninteresting that many people would not want to care
2 The issues were also not that life changing and didn’t bring much change:
. For example, some of the issues were about stormprepared, they should find three minutes to be enough. In some cases, if the issue is
serious or needs more explaining, they might need more than three minutes. After all, we
need to keep in mind that there are other citizens, and they want to talk just as much as
we do. If we keep the timing to a minimum, it will be fair and equal for everyone.
Some ideas and issues that were debated and discussed about were the Alamo
A Creek Detention Basin and the Ulatis Creek Detention Basin. They were talking about
flooding and relocating the road/bridge or replacing it in October of 2016. I didn’t really
have an opinion on that; we're already in a drought so how are we going to get a
flooding. Another issue that was brought up was the day when Comeast went out of
power, and the internet and telephones stopped working. I thought this was a serious
issue because no one could communicate with each other because of a simple natural
disaster like a fire. Also the idea of bringing a training fa
ty to the fire academy at
Solano Community College for students was brought up. I think it would be beneficial
for the students to have a training facility. My overview on the city government in
W general is that we need someone to go to for our issues, and we also need a government
that will cooperate and compromise with us.
