Comments from BSC Supervisor
Observation 1 Debra conducted a very interesting science lesson on germs and how they are transferred among
people. The students were engaged and there was a lot of discussion. Some students were side-tracked so I think it
would have been helpful to have students focused on completing a task to complete as they are conducting the
experiment.
Observation 2 Debra conducted a math lesson on adding and subtracting fractions. She used individual whiteboards
to assess how students were doing and provided assistance as needed. Some extension upon the lesson for those
students who understood the concept could have been beneficial. Otherwise, I think that the lesson went well and
students were comfortable asking for assistance when needed.
Observation 3 Debra played a game with the students that enabled them to further practice adding and subtracting
fractions. The students seemed to have difficulty with the concept. It might be helpful if learning were made more
authentic and utilized manipulatives to enhance the material and engage students. I encouraged Debra to be very
familiar with the material before instruction begins.

Reflection from Candidate
Observation 1 I think this lesson overall went well. The next time I teach this lesson I would give more explanation for
the glow powder. I would also only allow a few students at a time to go wash their hands while the others are doing
some other type of work. I think this would help the students to stay calm, and stay on track.
Observation 2 I think this lesson went well, but the next time I teach this lesson I would review multiples. I would also
model more examples, using step by step instructions to help students understand the process of finding common
denominators.
Observation 3 The lesson today was reviewing mixed fractions. I feel that the lesson went okay, but could have been
better. I was not familiar with the game that was played. I would definitely be more prepared next time.
