Service Project 15-16
12 April 2016
Serving in the community is a great way to build better relationships with others in the
community and God. Jesus spread the Word of God through service and preaching throughout
nations. As Christians, we are called to follow Jesus path and encourage others to learn about
Christianity and delve deeper into the faith.
I served in the Cranberry Township community by volunteering at the Saint Kilian
Fellowship Dinners, West View Boro, Saint Kilian Fish Fry, and CWNC open house. At the
Saint Kilian Fellowship Dinners, I served food, chatted to the guests, and cleaned up the tables
after everyone left the dining hall. I joined the West View Boro in making Halloween treat bags
full of candy for disabled children, who could not trick-or-treat. The other volunteers and I
successfully packed over 1,000 bags that night. I was on clean-up duty at the Saint Kilian Fish
Fry, which involved clearing and wiping tables, washing dishes, and stacking chairs and tables.
At the CWNC open house, I represented the newspaper club and informed people and answered
questions about Cardinal Wuerl as they walked by on their tours.
Volunteering gives satisfaction to both the volunteer and one receiving the help, which is
the main reason I love to volunteer. It allows a volunteer to build new relationships and become
more grateful for their blessed lives. The person receiving the help also feels thankful that
someone cares about them and wants to help in any way possible. When I volunteered at the fish
fry, I was able to speak with the guests and learn more about their lives and build friendships.
As Francis of Assisi expressed, Go forth and preach the gospel, use words if necessary.
This quote relates to the service I completed because I did not necessarily stand up and talk about
scripture. I used my actions to show love and compassion to those who were in need, which was
a huge part of Jesus ministry. Volunteering helped me grow a stronger relationship with God,
and I now understand a small part of what Jesus did throughout his life.
I am thankful I have the opportunity to make a difference in the community. This project
was a great experience to meet new people, help others, and build a stronger relationship with
God. Volunteering is a great way to spread the faith to those who may not know about it or help
grow a deeper relationship with God. Serving others truly does change lives.
