Dear Parents,
My name is Heather Ackerman and I will be student teaching in your childs classroom
with Mrs. Dermatis through the end of April. At the end of student teaching I will be certified
as a Pre-K-4th grade teacher.
A little background information on me. I have a bachelors degree from Penn State in
Human Development and Family Studies. I am married to my best friend Cory and have two
children. Brooke is 3 and Cohen is 2 months old. I have always been passionate about
working with children and that is what ultimately led me to Millersville to the PostBaccalaureate teacher certification program.
As a student teacher, I will be working closely with Mrs. Dermatis to plan and prepare
lessons to teach to the class. I will also be assisting her during class time. Prior to student
teaching with Mrs. Dermatis I have worked in various classroom settings as a paraeducator
(teaching assistant) for 7 years. I also have experience working as a mental health worker for
children and adolescents. I am very excited to be at Pleasant View Elementary School
working with your children.
Teaching and working with children is a passion of mine and Im very excited to begin
this journey as a student teacher. Part of my goal as an educator is to spark curiosity in the
minds of students. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children through
this experience.
