What is Tourettes?

An inherited neuropsychiatric disorder.


Commonly diagnosed in childhood (5-10
years)
Having multiple physical tics and at least
one vocal tic.
Different severity of tics

Uncontrollable urge to satisfy tics

Sudden twitches, movements, or sounds


with repetition and without control of the
person doing them.

Motor

Most commonly moving the head or

Severity of tics
Often TS is stereotyped by saying the people who have it swear or
make rude gestures often. However, swearing and crude gestures
are a more severe form of TS

Copropraxia

Echolalia and Coprolalia

The person makes rude gestures with


their hands and/or body

Echolalia: the person copies or


echoes themselves or someone
else
Coprolalia: the person says curse
words or phrases
