Monsieur Ibrahim Reflection: A Boy Changed
I was really upset that the end was spoiled for me. Had I not been told that
Monsieur Ibrahim dies at the end of the story, I would have been completely devastated
when I finished Monsieur Ibrahim et les Fleurs du Coran. Its just too awful! Hasnt
Momo been through enough? Though, I love the way Mose wraps up the story rather
tidily when he tells us that he has taken over the grocery store for Monsieur Ibrahim. I
wouldnt have expected any less from Momo! Honestly, I have connected so deeply with
Momo and Monsieur Ibrahim, that I was really sad to see the story end. Particularly, this
semester, because you have shown me that theres so much more to the story than the
words on the paper. So much of what Momo went through was so heartbreaking, yet he
came away from his experiences stronger than ever. Hes a truly wonderful, wellrounded character. I particularly liked the quote by Momo that says: Je tourne une main
vers le ciel, et je tourne. Je tourne une main vers le sol, et je tourne. Le ciel tourne audessus de moi. La terre tourne au-dessous de moi. Je ne suis plus moi mais un de ces
atomes qui tournent autour du vide qui est tout. Its a rather long quote, but really
relates to the entirety of Momos journey. I believe that Momo has come to accept
religion into his life and realizes that hes not alone, but apart of something bigger.
Wherever he turns, he can find comfort there. Momos journey with Monsieur Ibrahim

and Abdullah, has shown him that hes stronger than he knows and more than worthy of
the love he has sought out from others.
