Present reflections on the past

to build my future
I was the head delegate of Germany. There were representatives of more
than 40 countries. I, together with delegates of other European countries, was
writing a draft resolution about global sustainable development. It was my first
time to simulate a Model United Nations (MUN) conference. Contemplating about
that now, the last 2 years have had a huge impact on the decision I have made for
the next 5 years. First, Participating at MUN has granted me a chance to cultivate
my skills. Simulating my first MUN 2 years ago, I have been able to simulate
various roles, from a co-delegate to the Vice-Chair of the General Assembly. All of
that have improved my communication skills, which is a great asset, since I aspire
to work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. More importantly, being a
MUNer has enabled me to visualize my future. It has made me feel what it looks
like to be a delegate. That was of significant help in making a decision about my
future career. Finally, the MUN has broadened my perspective and has provided
me an opportunity to network with people from different backgrounds, - most
probably, future colleagues.

In 5 years from now, having graduated from a

Masters degree abroad, I hope I will already become an attach at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. It is highly possible that I will be working with my
friends who I met at a MUN conference. I hope the experience and skills gained at
MUN will lead me to be representative of Uzbekistan in a real United Nations
conference in the nearest future.
