Potential Flow Visuali
To study the potential flow pattern around different objects using Hele-Shaw’s
method.
Experimental Equipment —_Hele-Shaw Apparatus
Theory
Potential flow pasta single cylinder constrained between plane walls,
visualized by Hele-Shaw method.
From potential flow theory, the flow has to satisfy the condition of
irrotationality.

so that, with respect to average velocities, the viscous fluid is a true analog of
an ideal fluid in plane irrotational flow,
Experimental Procedure
Place the object between the plate, control the dye injection to obtain a clear
picture of potential flow pattern. Capture the flow pattem for a single
cylinder, the multiple cylinders and an aerofoil with different incidences using a
digital camera. Compare the flow pattern of a single cylinder for real viscous
flow.
Conclusion
Deduce any conclusions from the observations. Comment whether the flow
patterns are realistic or not and the limitation of inviscid flow theory.
