Third ASID Interior Design Excellence Award Goes to

Drury Design and Ginny Blasco Design
Drury Design of Glen Ellyn and Ginny Blasco Design of Chicago recently won an ASID award for a
spectacular kitchen remodel in Winnetka, Illinois. The early 20th century homes kitchen remodel breathed
new life into the entire first floor.
This project is the teams third ASID awardin 2014, a multi-cook kitchen remodel in Burr Ridge and a
reimagined rec room in Glen Ellyn each won ASID Illinois Excellence Awards.
Gail Drury, CMKBD, remarked, Because we are competing against some of the top interior designers in
the country, winning the ASID award is an important achievement. We are honored to be considered as
part of this esteemed group of interior designers.

a career in the design industry. She
also holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree
in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois
School of Professional Psychology
and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree
in Psychology from the University of
Illinois at Chicago.

An experienced cabinetry designer,

Izabela appreciates modern design
techniques. A graduate of the Illinois
Institute of Art, she earned a Council
for Interior Design Accreditation
(CIDA) and is an American Society of
Interior Design (ASID) member.

Updating the master bathroom is one of the most popular home renovation

projects. After all, its the space where most of us prepare to face the day and
retreat to unwind in the evening, so improving its form and function can have
a tremendous impact on daily life.
Top trends in master baths include wet rooms that enclose a shower and
bathtub within one space, universal design features that make the room functional
for all stages of life, luxurious materials, efficient storage, and creative lighting.
Each of the five master bath remodeling projects featured here incorporates
some of these elements to create spaces that are reflective of the homeowners
personal style and needs.

this master bath in Glen Ellyn
completely refigured the room into a
marvelously modern space.

HOW THEY ACHIEVED IT:

They completely reconfigured the
room, borrowing a bit from the master
bedroom so they could create a single
larger closet with a center countertop
between the his and hers areas. In
designing the new layout, Drury was
able to create a small vestibule in the
bedroom that provided additional privacy.
The closet is Marcias favorite feature.
I love the peninsula and the way it is
organized. Its not a lot more square
footage than our old closets, but it is
better organized and has a feeling
of space, she says.
The new closet not only tripled their
closet storage, it also created a cozy
niche for a freestanding tub, which
replaced the outmoded space-gobbling
Jacuzzi. Nearby, the new shower offers
six body sprays, a rainhead, hand-held
shower and regular showerhead, all
operated via a digital interface.
Materials used in the room include
a combination of glass tiles, porcelain
tiles and natural stone tiles, as well as
recycled reconstituted veneer cabinetry
with a gunmetal ebony finish. Countertops

in the bathroom and closet are two

different types of quartz. Donna Hall
of Donna Mondi Interior Design helped
Marcia finish the bedroom and bath,
selecting unique light fixtures including
pendants, chandeliers and sconces
in a mix of metals.
Marcia sought a look that was modern
and would appeal to future buyers in
addition to meeting her needs, and says
shes amazed by the transformation. Its
updated, sleek and contemporary. I just
walk in there when I want to get away
from everything. Its such a big difference.

REINVENTING
THE BATH

WHAT THEY WANTED:

After more than two decades,
the master bath in Dave and Marcia
Kneupfers Glen Ellyn home was sorely
in need of attention. Not only was the
look outdated, with whitewashed oak
cabinetry, the layout was inefficient.
It was very compartmentalized, with
two very small closets, a small shower
and a huge, useless tub that took up
half the room, notes designer Gail
Drury, president and creative director
of Drury Design in Glen Ellyn.
For Marcia, the top priorities were
a larger closet, a roomier shower and
a youthful, modern look. We wanted
to take it to the next level, she says.
Our big intention was to get more
closet space, and that drove a lot
of the decisions we made.
