Promotion to Department Supervisor

I am writing because I desire a promotion to Department Supervisor over the Lumber

department. As you are the Assistant Store Manager (ASM) who has responsibility over the
Lumber department, I have chosen to send you this memo in an attempt to call to your attention
my abilities and my desire for personal growth inside the company. I feel that with the proper
training and guidance from the excellent management at this store and any future stores that I
work at I will be able to become a valuable asset to The Home Depot.
As you know, I have been working at The Home Depot for the past 3 years. I have worked in
several departments from Garden to Freight and I believe that this diversity has given me an
intricate knowledge of how the store functions. This experience has allowed me to work with
several different Department Supervisors and see many different management techniques. This
will help me motivate my team when I am promoted to Department Supervisor. I have also
earned the Diamond Homer badge which denotes my dedication to providing excellent
customer service, maintaining a clean store appearance, and making sure that the shelves are
adequately stocked. On top of these awards I have received numerous reports of positive
customer feedback with regards to my ability to help customers with the things they need. With
all of these combined, along with the knowledge that I have of the workings of the Lumber
department, I feel that I am the best person to be promoted to the position of Lumber
Department Supervisor.
Please consider my proposal and schedule a time within the next two weeks where we can
meet to discuss the possibility of my development inside The Home Depot.
