FOLDER by Thursday of each week!

Phonics/Literacy Centers:

We have read many books by both Angela Johnson and Mo Willems to go along

Practiced many sight words from our word wall.

with our Authors as Mentors writing unit!

Worked on putting words in the correct order to make a sentence.

Made words ending in -and.

Sorted lowercase letters b, d, q, and p- this was a challenge for many.

We also learned the secret stories for al and ar- Ask your child to tell you
the stories!

Writing Workshop:

We have begun our Authors as Mentors writing unit!

Students have learned how to write tiny seed stories instead of big

watermelon stories full of details like Angela Johnson.

Students have also learned how to incorporate dialogue into writing, just like

Mo Willems.

They have learned how to express feelings through tools such as dialogue and

punctuation.

Math/Math Centers:

Students have learned how to write number words.

Students have been practicing measuring and comparing lengths/heights of


objects.

They have sorted and graphed shamrocks with different patterns.


Students worked on subtraction through manipulatives.

Science:

We have begun our pet unit in science!

Students have discussed what a pet needs to live.

Students have observed our new class pet - Miss Wests tortoise, Bear!
Students have sorted between pets, wild animals, and farm animals.

Mrs. Racines dog, Stella came in to visit on Wednesday the 16th! We discussed
how to take care of Stella.

Mrs. Burnsteins cat, Ginger came in to visit on Thursday the 17th! We


discussed how to take care of Ginger.
