INTRODUCTION A. BACKGROUND One of the important elements in a system of culture is art. Humans can express their experience, feeling and idea through art to educate their inner lives. It has been found that the power of art has its own expression so that humans are able to create the spectacular and expressive artworks Nowadays, the development of the art world has entered the wide globalization by the creation of various forms of artworks which being the identity of art performers. The dance is one of the form of art which having the significant improvement on developing. and creating the traditional and contemporary dance. It is the basic characteristic to be the advanced and dynamic culture. One of the mission points in the State Heritage Studio at State Senior High Schoo! 1 Pekanbaru is to develop and preserve the art of Malay culture and being able to compete at national and international level. In order to realize that mission, we as the next generation need to hold a creative breakthrough which certainly having the selling value and the good competitive value in international world. One of that breakthroughs is by following festival and international dance competition with presenting the creative and innovative works to advance the local potential and as promotion of Indonesian culture in the international world B. OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES Conseil International des Organisations du Festival de Folklore et d'Arts Traditionnales (CIOFF) is an International organization which cooperates with UNESCO under the auspices of the United Nations. Every year, the activity of CIOFF bridge the relation of Indonesian government to the other countries as the mission of peace and culture. That activity is by inviting the various arts groups in some countries which are rated capable to perform the traditional art creation of their own countries as the source of creativity. In the implementation of the International Folklore Festival in Mehmetcik city-North Cyprus in 2016, CIOFF of Indonesia representation give an opportunity for State Heritage Art Studio at State Senior High School 1 Pekanbaru-Riau to show the dances and music collaboration which sourced from local traditions, especially Riau. The duration of time to show it is divided into some performances of dance and music. The event of International Folklore Festival in Mehmetcik city-North Cyprus 2016 is the creative event of dance art in the form of festival. DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY OF FOLKLORE FESTIVAL The arranged activities in Folklore Festival always purpose to bridge the interaction between the participants from various nations. The activity is started from parade and opening ceremony on the first day. All participants show their own typical dances, music and traditional costumes. The performances at the various stages are organized by the committee with the participating countries. In addition to outdoor and indoor stage, the committee also use the public spaces as the stage to show such as City Park, mall and etc. The accommodation of teenage participants is arranged by committee and local government. They select and determine the worthy families to provide their home for teenage participants who came from various countries. Therefore, each participant will have family and relatives during the implementation of the Folklore Festival. Beside the performances, the committee will invite the participants to tour at various historical locations in the city. After folklore festival, participants will go to Istanbul city and touring to the cultural places such as Blue Mosque, Hagya Sofia, Grand bazaar, Bosporus, and ete. B, FORM OF ACTIVITY Festival C. Menjemput Senja Synopsis : This dance tells about the activity of Malay men and women when dusk would arrive. After working, they gather and joke until waiting the evening time that will soon arrive 2. Laman Gelanggang Synopsis : Laman gelanggang is the name of martial place of Malay boys and girls in order to learn about self-protection. Before entering the adolescence, they have to be equipped by martial art. This dance describes about the atmosphere in learning at Jaman gelanggang B. Material of Indonesian Traditional Dance 1, Rentak Bulian Dance (Dance of Malay/Riau) Rentak Bulian Dance is treatment ritual, which is taken from the word Rentak and Bulian, Rentak means step, and Bulian is the place of haven spirit in the local language of Indragiri Hulu. The Rentak Bulian Dance is very thick with atmosphere and magical elements, This dance tells about the ceremony to expel the spirits in ‘order not to interfere the people's lives. 2. Serampang 12 Dance (Dance of Malay/Riau) This dance tells about the story lives of Malay man and woman, starting from an introduction, being husband and wife who are described on 12 range of displayed dance. 3, Saman Dance (Dance of Aceh) This dance is the dance of Gayo tribe which is usually showed to celebrate the important tradition events. The poetry of Saman dance uses the language of Gayo. Besides that, this dance is usually also showed to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad. Some literatures state that Saman dance in Aceh was established and developed by Sheikh Saman, a scholar who came from Gayo DI Aceh Tenggara. 4, Jogi Dance (Dance of Melay/Kepri) This dance is a typical dance of Batam which is identical to the Mak Yong.
