A Brief History of West Virginia


West Virginia became a state on June 20, 1863
U.S. President Abraham Lincoln approved the statehood of West Virginia into the Union
during the Civil War as the 35th state
Although the Civil War was fought in thousands of places throughout many different
states the majority of the fighting happened in West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee
