The simple past: Regular and Irregular Verbs.

We had an adventure.
Kathy: Hi Amanda. Say, where were you and Josh on the weekend? I
called and left a message.
Amanda: Well, we had an adventure.
Kathy: You did?
Amanda: Yes. We went out of town on Saturday. We left at 3:00. About
4:00 it started to snow. In half an hour the snow was really deep.
Kathy: Did you stop?
Amanda: Yeah. We had to. I tried to call for help, but my cell phone was
dead. Then it got dark. We put on all our warm clothes, so we were OK.
Kathy: Did you have anything to eat?
Amanda: Yes, we did, actually. We had some cookies and chocolate
bars. We ate those right away. And we had some water. We drank it
during the night.
Kathy: Was it cold?
Amanda: Freezing! Fortunately, we had our sleeping bags. But we didnt
sleep much.
Kathy: Then what happened?
Amanda: In the morning a snowplow came along and cleared the road.
Kathy: Wow! Thats scary. Im glad youre OK.
Amanda: Thanks. Me too.
