The Malayan Tapir

Natural Habitat
Range: The Malayan Tapirs are restricted to southern Vietnam, southern Cambodia, southern
Myanmar [Burma] ,and the province of Thailand. They also live in Malaysia.
Habitat: They live in places like evergreen, forest.

BIOLOGY
Malayan tapirs are frugivores, folivores, and lignivores. The diet consists of leaves buds,
growing twigs, bark, herbs, low growing succulents, fruits, club moss, grasses, tubers, and
aquatic plants.
Life Span: Average lifespan of Malayan tapirs is approximately 30 years. They have been
recorded living up to 36.5 years in captivity.
Adaptations: They are agile, can run quickly, and are capable of climbing over small vertical
barriers.
Status: vulnerable/ endangered
Gender Differences: male slightly smaller than female
Social behavior: solitary
Vocalization: shrill whistling sound
Food supply: fruits and vegetables, scattered grass,
Safety for animals/humans: Glass separate

*Malayan tapir are good swimmers and they often like to bathe and swim.
*They are mainly active at night but they are not exclusively nocturnal.
