Practice Reflection
Describe an experience, event or change in your practice or practice setting that was significant to
you,
A significant experience that was important to me during clinical was my first day at 3C Rehab in.
‘Trillium, When | came to clinical, | did not come prepared or ready to administer medications and
appeared completely incompetent in front of my instructor and peers. This experience was significant to
me because it allowed me to learn from my mistakes. Since then, | have always showed up prepared and
ready to work and learn, Since this experience, | have attended clinical with confidence and eagerness to
gain knowledge, experience and improve my nursing practice.
Based on what you described above, what were your strengths and what were your areas for
improvement?
Currently, my biggest strengths are my work ethic and eagerness to learn. Because of these
strengths, it has allowed me to strengthen my nursing skills in vital signs, bed making, bed bath, head-to-
toe assessment, medication administration and research. My other strengths also include organization
‘and accountability. | also feel like | can demonstrate good leadership and teamwork abilities. My
‘weaknesses include numerous things. Since | am still a student nurse, there is still plenty of room to
Improve in all aspects of nursing. This includes all nursing procedures, theories, time management,
‘communication, documentation, care plans, critical thinking, patient transfer, and medication
‘administration, injections, in particular. | believe | can improve these weaknesses by continuing to
practice in the clinical setting and continuing to read through my studies.
What input have you received from your peers about your practice?
My peers have stated that | have good leadership abilities and that | am able to communicate
and help clients and peers whenever needed. They have also complimented my abilities to multitask and
administer medications. My peers have stated | should improve on my assertiveness and continue to
work, study, and practice nursing skills and medications.
Based on your own reflection and the input you received, what are your learning needs?
Based on my learning needs and input, | believe | can further improve by continuing to seek
‘opportunities to practice my nursing skills. | should take more time during the week to read and study
theories and reasoning of all the nursing skills. Personally, | think my biggest area of improvement is my
critical thinking. | think in order to improve in this area, | need to gain more experience and continue to
observe my instructor, peers, and nursing professionals.
