The Fiftieth Anniversary of the March on Washington by Barack Obama
On August 28, 2013 President Obama gave a speech to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the
march on Washington and the I have a dream speech. Obama began with how, why, and who
participated in the march on Washington. Those brave people came from across the country, all
walks of life, and having seen or experienced injustice, but united by common dream. Our
progress as a country so was only the beginning. While the country has ended segregation,
secured civil rights, voting rights, and legalized gay marriage since the march and Powerful I
have a dream speech, there is still work to be done. The country still faces economic and
political problems that can be fixed by coming together to bring about change. There are an
overwhelming amount of citizens who do the right thing even if it isnt easy. These patriots are
dedicated teachers, businessmen who go above what is required for their employees, parents who
love and raise their children to be proud and do what is right, and etc. They figuratively march to
bring about change. Change does not come from Washington, but to Washington. President
Obama closes his speech by saying that with the promise of tomorrow, we can change the
country together.
