જય જય ગરવી ગુજરાત !
જય જય ગરવી ગુજરાત,
દીપે અરૂણુ ં પરભાત,
ધ્વજ પ્રકાશશે ઝળળળળ કસુબ
ં ી, પ્રેમશૌર્યઅંકીત;
ત ું ભણવ ભણવ નિજ સંતતિ સઉને, પ્રેમ ભક્તિની રીત -
ઊંચી તુજ સુદ

ઉત્તરમાં અંબા માત,

Iranian President to launch tractor project in Zim

Mahmoud Ahmajinejad, is expected to officially launch the Industrial Development
Corporation (IDC) tractor project that has been on the cards for the past two years when he
visits Zimbabwe next week.

The Iranian president will be in the country to officially open the Zimbabwe International
Trade Fair, which will be held in Bulawayo.
The project, set to earn US$30 million annually from the export of at least 2 000 tractor units,
will be launched at the Willowvale Mazda Motor Industries (Pvt) Ltd assembly plant in the
capital.

IDC public relations advisor Mr Derek Sibanda, said the first tractor kits had started arriving.
He said the delay in the implementation of the project had to do 'with administrative issues
that had to be agreed upon before the project could roll out and these have since been
finalised'.

'The Iranian government has since released the US$4 million grant that it had earmarked for
the setting-up of the tractor manufacturing business and we have received the kits at the
WMMI assembly plant,' said Mr Sibanda.

The tractor project, which will operate under a company called Motira (Pvt) Ltd, is a joint
venture between IDC, the Iranian Tractor Manufacturing Company and the Iranian Foreign
Investment Company.

The three parties signed a shareholders' agreement on the deal in March 2008.
Under the agreement, ITMCO and IFIC jointly hold 55 percent in Motira while IDC has 45
percent although the shareholding would be reviewed at a later stage to take into
consideration the country's empowerment laws.

Motira would initially be engaged in the assembly of tractors from completely knocked down
kits before venturing into full-scale production that includes the establishment of a foundry
plant that would manufacture the kits locally.

Apart from assembling, producing and selling tractors, Motira would also offer after-sales
service support of the whole range of the tractors and implements of the same brand.

The foundry plant is targeted at producing about 5 000 units per annum. This is in line with
the current capacity at the WMMI plant.
The Iranian President is also expected to tour several other projects in Zimbabwe including
the IDCZ investment, Modzone Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd, in Chitungwiza.
