Summary of President Barack Obamas Speech Of the 50 Anniversary of MLKs I Have a
th

Dream Speech
In the speech, 50th Anniversary of MLK's I Have a Dream speech given by President Barack
Obama, Obama addresses the issues we overcame with segregation after the speech given by Dr.
King fifty years ago. Obama gives credit to the people of the United States that did not have their
names in the paper or their faces in the news for the success of attempting to end segregation. In
the speech, he discusses how people marching caused a civil rights law to be passed and a freer
and more equal America to be created. He discusses how people worked for equality and
expected it to always stay the same instead of working to keep our country equal. Maintaining
the diversity and equality that they fought for requires vigilance. In addition, we must remember
that they were also fighting for equality in jobs and economic security. Obama shares that the
unemployment rate for blacks is still much higher than it should be and it is becoming harder for
people of different color and race to find a job. Obama believes that jobs should be given to
people based on hard work and skill not on color or race. He states that we need to stop repeating
history and start making new history. Change the way we are toward one another. Do not judge
people based on looks because in the end, we are all we have. People marched on that day to end
inequality and it seems to be coming back. The problems might not be the same but they are still
problems to face. People fight to put food on the table, a roof over their heads and even put
clothes on their familys backs. Why dont we step up and make the change ourselves and help
our community around us? One day, that person struggling might be you.
