English 1010
Ms. Longhurst

E-Portfolio Assignment
English 1010 this spring has been an exploration of ones willingness to increase their
educational skills and creativity which, in return as Ms. Longhurst has put it, helps prosper
success in all aspects of English and even life. Since day one of the class, the importance of
being curious and teachable was strongly exemplified by Ms. Longhurst to show students that
learning comes from more than just showing up and being present. There has to be drive to want
to learn and drive to find excitement and purpose in increasing abilities in the classroom. Within
the actual class work, Ms. Longhurst gave assignment after assignment that pushed students to
follow directions carefully, write with purpose, and even learn how to work within a group. Each
assignment Ms. Longhurst handed out had a clear set of directions that, if read correctly would
enable students to write with a clear purpose. To be more blunt, each assignment was given the
purpose to help students show off how well they could chronologically write or backup the thesis
they created. For the second half of the class, students were asked to make groups to create a
second portfolio. Most students in the class were fond of this because new friends/companions
were made and they were able to learn from new perspectives.
Id say that all students had a different way of finding success in their process of learning
(their process of learning). I personally found success in being on time with assignments and
listening carefully to Mr. Longhurst words in class. I consider myself an above average English
student and with that I walked into this class wanting to gain more knowledge and information

that would help me become a better English student. This was my drive. It was my goal. I took
every chance I got to write with everything I had. And when things didnt turn out the way I
wanted, I would revise it until I was happy and I felt onboard with the outline of the assignment.
I look at how well I learned aspects in the class by the grade a received in the classan
A. How well I learned in the class is also based on how much Ms. Longhurst appreciates my
presents in the physical class. Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning I came willing to
get stronger as an English student and if Ms. Longhurst noticed that and found me as a teachable
student, I considered myself a great learner. Lastly, I noticed I learned a lot if outside the
classroom I could find ways to incorporate classwork into my daily lifewhich I found myself
doing multiple times.
Like I briefly talked about above, I took to heart Ms. Longhurst words on how ones
willingness to increase their educational skills and creativity can be a great characteristic for
other classes and even life. English is one of my 5 classes this spring semester and the amount of
writing I do in English class has driven my ability to find success in those courses from a writing
standpoint. The concepts such as Ethos, Pathos, Logos, word choice, etc., have proven to be
important in communicating thoughts on paper within other educational classrooms outside of
English. In the real world, Ms. Longhursts English class has taught me to be more attentive to
detail. On the baseball field, I try now to put more focus on how plays come together or how my
body works when hitting instead of just going through the motions. When communicating with
my friends or family, I find myself using stronger vocabulary.
This class has meant way more than just a grade to me, as consciously shown by my new
habits. The 13 weeks of English thus far has opened doors to becoming not only a better student,
but also a learner that sees the importance education can play in my life from a new light.
