Attending the University of Pittsburgh will set one up for success in post baccalaureate
life because of their ideal location, excellent psychology program, and their wide range
opportunity based education. In 1787, the university was established and known as the
Pittsburgh Academy. After it developed, it was renamed to Western University of Pennsylvania.
In the summer of 1908, the Western University of Pennsylvania, renamed to the University of
Pittsburgh, home of the Panthers. Stands the moto veritas et virtus, meaning Truth and
Virtue in English, exposes the school and its morals within a single phrase. Once the students
step foot on the campus for the first time, they will immediately learn the values that theyll carry
with them throughout their life.
The University of Pittsburgh sets one up for success due to the ideal location. The
university lives in the heart of Oakland, PA. The Andy Warhol Carnegie Museum of Art and
National History, Mattress Factory Museum, Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens are free
to any student thats enrolled at Pitt. These museums contain many historical and abstract
features thats appealing to anyone with an artistic eye, or even if any student looks for
entertainment or relaxation. The transportation system remains free to any student at the college
also. Fare Free or any Port Authority trolley, bus, or incline also falls under the category of free
transportation with a Panther Card. Being located in Oakland, PA, gives one so many
opportunities to explore a true city. For students living around the Pittsburgh area, the Fare Free

transportation not only has benefits for their free time, but it adds to their ability to return home
if needed or wanted. Within the city, consists fabulous restaurants, and great views from the peak
of the city. Having virtually any type of business within walking distance, produces a very fitting
environment for a college setting. Pitts main campuss divided into 4 sections, along with it
revolving within walking distance of many recreational, cultural, and educational institutions.
The campus stands adjacent to the Schenley Plaza, the main branch of the Carnegie Public
Library, the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History, and the Carnegie Music Hall, as well
as CMU. These types of privileges gives the students access to multiple chances to upgrade their
knowledge.
The University of Pittsburgh not only has an ideal location, but it embodies an excellent
psychology program. The program sets a college student up for success in psychology due to
their superior teachings. The schools psychology program endures one of the very best
psychological doctorial training programs in the entire country. Students taking part in this
program, are the receivers of numerous awards and are highly successful in research, averaging
more than 6 publications during their graduate training. A little over more than half of the
students attending this college participate in some form of cross-training. Pitts emersion
involving realities problems, emphasizes the theoretical work contributes to the understanding of
real-world issues. The research interests of their faculty and staff extend across the human
lifespan and involve a wide range of research populations such as individuals with Alzheimer's
disease, anxiety, autism, brain injury, depression, reading disability, Parkinson's disease, or
schizophrenia. Under the supervision of a research mentor, the university uses an apprenticeship
model, which the students participate in an uprising independent program of research over the
course of their training. At the same time, nearly 75% of Pitts students participate in research

with more than two faculty members during their training, and all students receive guidance tips
from a faculty mentorship committee that meets every so often. The program is ranked number
30 in all of the country for their psychology program. The training activities include: Biological
& Health, Clinical, Cognitive, Developmental, and Social Psychology. 9% of the students are
enrolled in this program.
The University of Pittsburgh not only has an ideal location or an excellent psychology
program, but the university consists of a wide range opportunity based education. Pitt is the
second largest non-government employer in the Pittsburgh region behind UPMC. The university
is ranked among the top public universities in the United States in both domestic and
international rankings. Other than just an excellent psychology program, Pitt offers a total of 122
majors that an undergraduate student would be able to choose from. Along with the diversified
majors to choose from, students are eligible to participate in a total of 350 student organizations.
82% of the students, including students taking part within the psychology major along with other
majors, have graduated within 6 years of attending. The estimated amount for students to
change their majors at Pitt is 60%. By this being said, with that high of a percentile ranking in
major changes, there is a vast amount of majors to look into and consider. Being granted access
to these diverse majors, produces the opportunity for many positive outcomes for the students
who are not quite sure on what they want to major in. 66% of students all over the country,
change their major every year. Attending a university like Pitt, offering many diversified majors
and local opportunities, is a great setting for a student who enjoys exploring the world of
opportunity.
All in all, the University of Pittsburgh will set one up for success in post baccalaureate

based education. The University of Pittsburgh will not only provide success for a graduating
student, but it will make a permanent impact on their lives. Pitt has many opportunities for
students to take advantage of and to make good use of them.
