Grade Level: Middle School Time: One week State Standards: 1,2, 4 Unit Rationale: It will provide students with the skills and knowledge to participate in team sports that will emphasize throwing, catching, running, hitting, and dodging. It will teach them to work positively on teams and work in a productive manner. Goals: My goal is to see progression in the students throwing, catching, running, hitting, and dodging. They will have to show me that they comprehend how to correctly do each one of those in order to get to the big game at the end of the unit. If i do not see progression I will try to cover the same concept in other units. Objectives: Students will be able to throw a ball with the proper fundamentals. Students will show progression in catching. Students will show how to correctly hold a bat and have a balanced batting stance. Lessons/ Main Activities: This is a one week unit so there will be 5 lessons 1. Day 1- Throwing and Catching a. Everyone gets a partner. Stand about 15 away from each other and throw the ball as quick as they can back and forth for 15 seconds. Once time is over they move one partner over. 2. Day 2- Fielding Ground Balls a. One partner rolls and ball across to other partner. They must field ground ball and relay what number is on the ball. Move one ball over once completed. 3. Day 3- Hitting a. Put large foam balls on T and have students hit off them. Once they hit it they must go get it and bring it back to their partner. 4. Day 4- Communication a. One player throws ball in air and says mine or yours. Whoever was suppose to catch the ball out of the two
of them and drops it receives a letter. First one to spell
(ERROR) loses 5. In line Baseball a. Students get in groups of 6-8, then divide themselves in half. One half is hitting, other is fielding. Hitters run to bag straight out in front of them and back. Fielders cannot catch ball for out, can only force them out at home. What is the assessment measure for the unit? - I will ask question to students about lesson I taught them the day before to check for understanding. Differentiated Instruction Anticipated- Use bigger balls, have them hit off a T, shorten up the distance between bases and where they are suppose to pitch from.
