Bremik Construction to unveil statue in honor of 11th anniversary
Portland based Bremik construction is soon to make a splash for its 11th
anniversary.
We wanted to give something to the city that was truly representative of its
damp climate, Vice President Mike Greensdale said. The statue will be in the
shape of a large raindrop, constructed from recycled steel salvaged from
each of Portlands many bridges.
The idea to make a rain themed commemoration came to Greensdale during
a typically rainy Portland day (go figure). After joining Bremik in 2004, Mike
began to contemplate a way that he could pay homage to his home city of
Portland.
Bremik hired a freelance sculptor but the name Lance Vanbrokendoffen to
carry out the artistic inspiration of Greensdale and the entire Bremik team.
Vanbrokendoffen was the brainchild behind the sculpted hearts in San
Francisco as well as the sculpture at the entrance to the Guggenheim
Museum.
Finally, Mayor of Portland Charlie Hales said after hearing of Bremiks
endeavor. Portland will finally have a true symbol of its nature, environment
and overall flow: a rain drop.
The statue is already being constructed in an undisclosed location, and will
be installed on the waterfront (quite fitting) of the Willamette River on
December 23 of this year.
Its going to be something that the people of Portland can be proud of for
the rest of their lives, said Greensdale. Well at least until the rain washes it
away.
