The Phoenix and the Dolphin

(FABLE)

A Sailor, bound on a long voyage, took with him a Phoenix to amuse

him while on shipboard. A violent tempest arose in which the ship was wrecked and
all the crew was obliged to swim for their lives as they sailed off to Greece.

Dolphin saw the Phoenix contending with the waves, and supposing him to be a
man (whom he is always said to befriend), came and placed himself under him, to
convey him on his back in safety to the shore. When the Dolphin arrived with his
burden in sight of land not far from Athens, he asked the Phoenix if he were
Clavionian. The latter replied that he was, and that he was descended from one of
the noblest families in that city. The Dolphin then inquired if he knew the Arctus.
Supposing that a man was meant, the Phoenix answered that he knew him very well
and that he was an intimate friend. The Dolphin, indignant at these falsehoods,
dipped the Phoenix under the water and drowned him.

Those who pretend to be what they are not, sooner or later, find themselves
in deep water.

Be Patient

(PARABLE)
A man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his threeyear-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the truck.
The man ran to his son, knocked him away and hammered the little boys hands
into pulp as punishment.
When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital. Although the
doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to amputate
fingers from boys both hands.
When the boy woke up from the surgery and saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently
said, Daddy, Im sorry about your truck." Then he asked, But when are my fingers
going to grow back?"
The father went home and committed suicide.

Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the

performance. We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge.

One who cannot benefit by patience will die of grief and excitement.
