Slippery Rock University student shows resilience while being treated for one
of her three concussions.

CARLISLE, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2015)Three days before Slippery Rock University began its
Fall session in 2012, a sophomore Exercise Science student didnt remember
anything. This student, Jessica Tomichek, had fallen down a flight of concrete stairs
and was severely concussed.
Tomichek had to carry around a notecard with her personal information until she
had regained her memory.
The Brain Injury Association of America stresses that concussions are growing
problems that must be treated immediately.
I am extremely fortunate to be able to be here, studying at SRU after suffering
from three concussions, Tomichek stated.
She is one of many people suffering from concussion issues. From small towns like
Slippery Rock, to the National Football League and National Hockey League,
concussions are becoming a major issue.
In the summer of 2015, 24-year-old rookie linebacker Chris Borland retired, due to
concussion safety concerns. In the 2014 NFL season, 123 players were diagnosed
with concussions. There were 14 players that year that missed three or more games
due to concussion, and one that missed 16 games.

Immediate treatment of a concussion is very important. For some people, sustaining

a concussion could also indicate brain bleeding.
-moreIf someone is even questioning if they have a concussion, it is recommended to get
it looked at. According to Susan H. Connors, president and CEO of the Brain Injury
Association of America, when in doubt check it out.
