Cross disciplinary is defined in the text as work being done by one

or more scientists who try to solve a problem or set of problems

that no one discipline alone can fully deal with. The objective is
not to try to integrate the disciplines or even parts of it into one
discipline or into interdisciplinary. An example of cross disciplinary
research would be the study of poverty and how it affects social
well-being. The possible parties to engage in the research would
be Economist, Social Worker, and maybe a Psychologist.
Transdisciplinary is defined as scientific work done by a group of
scientists each trained in one or more different disciplines with
the intention of systemically pursuing the problem of how the
negative side effects of specialization can be overcome so that
education and research can be more relevant socially. An example
of transdisciplinary research would be researching the causes of
premature birth. You would possibly want to include physicians,
clinical sciences, epidemiologist, and someone from the social
sciences.
Multidisciplinary is defined as having multiple disciplines work
separately on a shared topic and present their own findings but

do not integrate their findings into a new holistic report or

solution. An example of multidisciplinary research would be trying
to find a cure for diabetes. The individuals that may be involved
would be physicians and scientists.
Interdisciplinary is defined as work done by one or more
individuals who try to solve a set of problems whose solution can
be achieved only by integrating parts of existing disciplines into a
new discipline. Cross disciplinary differs from interdisciplinary
because cross disciplinary does not try to integrate the disciplines
that have worked together into a new discipline. Transdisciplinary
differs from interdisciplinary because transdisciplinary although
the research the problem as a whole there is no integration.
Multidisciplinary differs from interdisciplinary because
multidisciplinary works separately rather than together and they
do not integrate their findings.
