Reading lesson

Class: 3 Hijau
Issues/ challenges being focused on:
Introducing punctuations to my pupils
Making sure their pronunciation, stress and intonation are correct when pronouncing
words that has the punctuations
Teaching pupils to differentiate words that has the same sound but different spelling
Analysis of focuses/issues
Strength:
1. For this lesson, I had managed to introduced to my pupils some of the punctuations
used in writing. It was a bit difficult at first because they were never taught formally any
punctuation in English before or they must have forgotten. When introducing these
punctuations, I had asked pupils to recall some of the examples that they know and had
learnt before. Besides that, when explaining the use of exclamation mark, I had
incorporate some physical demonstration which works very well with the pupils. For
example, when asked how to ask for help, I had simulate myself kidnapping one of my
pupils. They responded immediately with the expected respond that I had hoped for. The
other punctuations were much easier to teach. Besides that, when I asked them to list
down the words that has the oi and oy, surprisingly, most of the pupils even my weak
ones can do it very well. Overall, my lesson objectives were achieved.
Weaknesses:
1. Even though most of my pupils can respond appropriately during my lesson, there were
some who has a problem understanding the use and how to use the punctuation. They
were a bit confused in terms of placing the exclamation mark and using the question
mark in sentences. For example, instead of putting the exclamation mark after the word
Help!, they place it at the end of the sentence like so, Help I am drowning!. Other than

that, during the while-reading, some were still struggling to pronounce some words and
some has a problem using the right intonation when reading.
New awareness related to experiences outside the classroom or daily life
I realized that the rate of learning in people is different from one another. Some may
learn very fast and some might be a bit slow. I need to be very well aware of how the
people around me perceive and understand things.
Suggestions and improvements:

For my next lesson, I need to prepare a variety of ways to address some of my weak
pupils ability to grasp what I am teaching. In other words, I need to prepare additional
materials such as teaching aids and easier worksheets.
