It is with great pleasure that I recommend Emily Porteous-Martinez for a position with your
organization. I have had the opportunity to work closely with Emily for the past two years in our
TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program here at Frank Phillips College, to which she has
served as both a tutor and a student mentor, in addition to her employment as our
Administrative Assistant. Throughout this time, I have personally witnessed her strong work
ethic, leadership skills and ability to overcome any obstacle that has come her way. In the spring
of 2015, Emily won our Outstanding TRiO Participant award for her strong involvement in our
program and outstanding academic performance. She has also been an SSS scholarship recipient
for the past two years.
Emily is very dedicated, reliable and involved within the community and our campus. During her
time here at FPC, she has served as a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Honors, The Global Issues
Club, and Senior Writer of The Plainsmen Post. Additionally, she has worked hard to promote
green energy and water conservation to her peers by designing an aquaponics system for the
community and leading environmental workshops for the campus. In the spring of 2017, Emily
will be continuing her education at West Texas A&M University where she intends to obtain a
Bachelors degree in Biology before pursuing a career in Environmental and Wildlife
Conservation. Her determination and willingness to work hard has made her an excellent rolemodel for her peers and a valued leader within our community.
I am thrilled that Emily has chosen to apply for a position within your organization and have no
