Portfolio Keeping: Writing Prompt Three
Becoming educated does not necessarily have to happen at a small school or huge
university. Learning can occur at various locations through many methods. Personally, I lear
more efficiently through having a short interview with an individual because it allows a
connection to be built.
During the summer of 2014, some of my uncles and aunts graduated from college and
they hosted a graduation party to celebrate their achievement. In total there were five individuals
which decided to commemorate that day as their graduation party. The event consisted of
introductions, personally stories, guest speakers, dinner, music, and dances that lasted throughout
the night
Each of the introductions and personal stories allowed me to learn about the various
professions each individual decided to become educated in. The majors in which were voiced
were: accounting, computer engineering, and nursing. Specific information was not given;
however, enough information was given to inform the audience about their journey through
college. All of the graduates had their own unique stories and opinions about college life, but
they all came to an agreement that it was a difficult task that required both concentration and
motivation,
‘The guest speakers consisted of two individuals in which one was a lawyer and the other
was a doctor. These individual shared their experience about college and what happened to theirLo2
life after obtaining their degree. They both became successful within their profession and
‘mentioned the trials which they had to overcome, Encouragement was provided to both the
graduates and the children in the audience to keep striving to become educated in school and the
real world.
Afterall the speeches that were given that night, everyone enjoyed the festivities. The
food, the music, and the performances were an amazing way for everyone to relax and enjoy the
rest of the night. However, only hearing the speeches was not a sufficient method for me to learn
Once everyone finished their dinner, I met with each of the graduates and asked them a couple
questions about their major and their college experience knowing that they may have more to
share, A miniature network was built between the graduates and me that night, which allowed
me to determine the profession I wanted to study in college.
