IN GOD WE BELIEVE? (pg. 12)

1) What does the U.S. Constitution actually say about religion? What does this mean to
you? Explain.
The U.S Constitution is supposed to guarantee freedom of religion. Also, in section VI of
the constitution, it says that no religious test should ever be required for a person to run
for federal office. This directly opposes what many states are doing by not allowing no
Christians to run for political position. To me, this is unfair because not all people are
religious and also because it directly undermines the Constitution itself. Because America
was founded off of the Constitution, it should hold true to those rules.

2) Do you think atheists and other secular Americans face discrimination in the U.S.?
Cite evidence from the article to support your position.
Yes I think that atheists and other secular Americans face discrimination in the U.S. This
is because they are not Christian like the rest of the government. This makes them
susceptible to discrimination within the political system. For example, by not allowing not
Christians to run for political positions, they are unfair treating the citizens of America.
Also, the amount of atheist/unreligious people are rising in America. This is unfair to the
atheists in America and should be stopped immediately.
