Service Project
Over this school year, I have participated in multiple community service opportunities,
including altar serving, helping at a food bank, waiting tables at a fish fry, and volunteering at
school events. I altar served at St. Kilian Parish, as well as at CWNC school masses. The food
bank at which I volunteered was located in Ambridge and called the Center for Hope. I worked
here as well as at the St. Alphonsus Fish Fry and Christmas on Troy Hill with some members of
the soccer team. Finally, I helped at CWNC with open houses, the Trojan Golf Outing, and the
Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
I participated in these activities to help members of the community in need, and to
support my school and parish. Each activity was beneficial to others, however the service activity
that impacted others and myself the most was volunteering at the Center for Hope food bank.
This helped people in need who did not have the resources to buy their own food. These people
are living in poverty, and I helped them, although it was in a small way, by distributing food to
them. This experience benefited me very much because I saw the immense amount of poverty in
an area so close to us. My eyes were opened to how fortunate I am and how important service is.
It was difficult to see how many people were suffering from disabilities that they could not afford
to treat. All of the service I performed impacted others and myself in some way, however
volunteering at the Center for Hope food bank was by far the most eye-opening and important
experience to me.
