Assignment/Activity Title—Mentor/Sage Project
Portfolio Category—Social Awareness
Skill— Research, Creative, Public Performance
The assignment I am writing about is the mentor/sage project. This project required me to interview an elderly
friend, relative, or acquaintance, and use the information I acquired during the interview to write and perform a
monologue. 1 interviewed my grandfather, who is a moderately conservative practicing Lutheran.
Blair's students area very liberal bunch. T have, in my short time at Blair, have not been exposed to many
conservative views, unless 1 am leaning about conservative movements in history lass. The same can be said about
Lutheranism, Lutheranism is an offshoot of the Protestant church, which is a form of Christianity. I’m not sure about
‘how many of Blair's students are religious, because religion is often not used as a lens to look at the world through.
Because my grandfather is both Christian and Conservative, I was able to expose myself to views I don’t tend to see.
‘The project's focus was on how the interviewee feels about his dreams and the world he grew up in. I was made
to interview a conservative Christian about his worldview, and so I was shown another way to view the way the world and
its people have evolved through time. One of the main points my grandfather made is that technology has made the world
“less moral” by allowing us to limit interaction within our communities. Because I saw technology through my
‘grandfather's conservative and religious lens, I have made a concerted effort to reduce my technology use and interact
with my peers. In this way, my social awareness has grown. [have been exposed to a worldview that I hadn't been
Previously, and I was taught a way to make my interactions with my social circle better.
