About the teacher:

A good teacher is like a candle it
consumes itself to light the way for
others (Mustafa Kemal Ataturk).
Being an educator is more than just
teaching students history or math. A
teacher can have a huge impact on
the life of a student and this is what
inspires me to be a teacher. I want to
have a positive influence on my students. I had a teacher in high school
who was very loving and caring toward her students. Through her

positive attitude and encouragement,

many students came to see that they
can do anything that they set their
mind to. She also taught her class
appropriate behavior and helped
them develop morals which will help
them in the future. I believe that the
goal of teachers is to prepare students for the real world. In order to
succeed in the real world, I believe
that it is extremely important for
students to have role models and
other positive influences in their lives.

As an educator, I will use my patience to

work with the students to develop them
mentally and academically. Through instruction and attention, any student can succeed
in the classroom. My passion for children will
also allow me to be a leader for my students
and hopefully someone that they can look
up to. In my classroom, I want to have an
environment where students feel free to
express their thoughts and opinions, but also
respect my authority. I believe that group
work is very beneficial for students because
the students can learn from one another.

Hearing information from more than one

source can help a student grasp the concept
even better.
This can also improve the student socially.
As a teacher, it is important that we prepare
the students for the real world. Teaching the
students how to behave in society can be
one of the most profitable skills that they will
use in life. One aspect of behaving in society
would be respecting the authoritative figure
present in the room. Having a commanding
presence in the room is an essential part of
education, because if there is no classroom
management there is no learning taking
place.

Cherokee and Creek Indians Project:

Over the next two weeks, we will be learning
about different aspects of the lives of the Cherokee and Creek Indians and also about how their
lives compare to our lives in Georgia today. At the
end of the two weeks, you will complete this project to show what you have learned through the
unit.
This information must be displayed during the skit:

You must be dressed in appropriate clothing to

represent the culture of your groups tribe.

You must describe the region where the group

of Indians lived. (Describe the animals and plant
life that can be found in this region.)

You must state at least two local resources the

Indians used.

What to do:

Step 1:You will be assigned to a group

of four. These groups are assigned
based on the tribe you choose to write
about in your narrative. (This narrative
will be written in class before you
complete the assessment.)

Step 2: Each group will read their narratives with each other in class and
combine ideas from each of the narratives to create a script. (Every group
member must have a part.)

Step 3: On May 20th, students will come

to school dressed in what their tribe
would wear and ready to act out the
script that they have planned. Each
group will also turn in a copy of their
script.

Activity for Home:

Jelly Bean Art

What You Need:

Jelly beans, various sizes and colors
Cardboard or thick card stock paper
Glue
Paper cups
Paintbrush
Pencil
Optional: graham crackers and vanilla frosting

What You Do:

Help your child collect or purchase jelly beans in various sizes or colors.
Have her sketch some simple shapes in pencil on the cardboard or card stock. The design can be in the shape of spring-related
images (flowers, rainbows, butterflies, chicks, rabbits, Easter eggs or Easter baskets, to name a few examples). If she wants to
keep things simple, she can also draw letters or a short word in bubble letters. Tell her that they drawings should not be too
detailed; she will have to fill the shapes in with the jelly beans.
Pour liquid or craft glue into a paper cup for your child. She may want to use other paper cups to organize her jelly beans by
color or size.
Next, have her apply the glue (we suggest using a paintbrush) and begin attaching the jelly beans within the lines she has drawn.
Have her continue until the entire image is filled with jelly beans.
Let the glue dry before moving the mosaic, and move it carefully!
An optional version is to use a sheet of graham crackers as a base and vanilla frosting instead of glue. After the jelly bean art is
completed on the graham cracker, your child can enjoy eating the creationdelightful and delicious!
