An anesthesiologist is a physician who is trained in the administration

of drugs, pain medicine, to patients who must undergo a procedure or
major surgery. An anesthesiologist is mostly seen in the operating
room although some procedures are performed in the patients room
or other medical suites... They also help patients who experience
chronic pain by maintaining normality in their day to day lives. An
anesthesiologist is present throughout most of the surgical procedure;
from accessing the patient in pre-op all the way to the postoperative
state. The anesthesiologist must be present in case a patient has an
adverse reaction to the medication administered during surgery. Their
job is unique and more advanced than an ordinary doctor or surgeon
since they must be familiar with a patients illness as well as the
effects the illness and medication will have on the body. Often they
will require another level of testing in order to administer the proper
dosage of medications many which cause full sedation.
