    Throughoutmyyearsofeducation,thereweremanytimesthatIwantedtogiveup.
    However,Ihadsupporterswhohasalwaysbelievedinmeandhelpedmepursuemygoals.
    Duringmyjunioryear,ItookHmongclassforoneyear.Towardstheendofmyschoolyearasa
    junior,Ireceivedasilverhonorrollcertificateforanacademic,outstandingachievementin
    Hmong.ReceivingthisawardmeantalottomebecauseIwasgoingthroughdifficulttimes.
    Atthebeginningofmyfreshmanyear,IfoundoutthatIhadscoliosis.Scoliosisisan
    unnaturalcurvatureofthespine.Thenormalshapeofthespineincludesatopoftheshoulder
    curveandalowerbackcurve.ScoliosiscausesthespinetocurvefromsidetosideorinanS
    orCcurve.ItwasduringmyjunioryearwhenIfoundoutthatmybackhasgottenworse.
    Afterhearingtheinformationfrommydoctors,Icouldnotbelieveit,Ithoughtmylifewasover.
    Mybackkeptgettingworseandworseanditaffectedmyeducation.Ibegantomissmultiple
    daysofschool,failingsomeclasses,andhadtomakeupsomuchworkfromeachclasses.I
    couldntbarethepainasthepainbecameworseandstronger.Iwantedtogiveupeverything.
    IlostthemotivationIhadforschoolandlife.Igaveupquicklybutafterreceivingthis
    award,itmademeunderstandthateventhroughthehardesttimesofmissingschoolbecauseof
    mybackpain,Imanagedtostilldomybest.TillthisdaynowasasenioratMercedHigh
    School,Istillhavescoliosis,butthroughhardworkandhardships,Ididnotgiveup.Ihavenot
    missedasmuchschooldaysasIdidpreviously.Icompleteallmyworkandmygradesfarmore

    betterthanitwasayearago..Ifitwasntformystruggles,IwouldnotbewhoIamtoday.Iam
    thankfulformystrugglesbecausewithoutitIwouldntstumbleacrossmystrength.This
    certificategavemeanopportunitytokeepstrivingforsuccess.
