Procedures

1. The apparatus is set up by the lab assistant beforehand and is ensured the
experiment is ready to commence.
2. The experiment is started by turning the Main flow control valve, Valve A, to
25% open. The venture nozzle is filled up and the 6 tubes in the manometer rack
is left until water level is stable. Once static, the water level in each tube is
recorded.
3. While the water is still flowing, the compression gland is pulled outwards and
the water pressure is measured and recorded by the use of the measurement
point. As soon as it is done the compression gland is pushed back to its initial
position.
4. Valve B, the valve connecting the volumetric measuring tank and the main water
tank, is then sealed.
5. The rate of water rising from 1L to 2L in the volumetric measuring tank, Tank B,
is measured by using a stopwatch. The time taken is then recorded. Valve B, is
then opened after data is collected
6. Main flow control valve is then turned off.
7. Steps 2-5 is repeated by opening 50%, 75% and 100%, of the main flow control
valve.
