abstract art that is usually geometric and aims to convey a sense
of simplicity and purity.

Where, 1960
By Morris Louis
Magna on Canvas

This painting is non-objective because it is

abstract and simple, and does not show a
subject. It also has very pure and simple
colors.

Representational Art

Art that depicts figures and objects so that we recognize what is

represented.
Mona Lisa, 150319
By Leonardo DaVinci
Oil on wood (poplar)

Leonardo DaVincis Mona Lisa is Representational because we

can recognize that it is a woman from the real world. Her
features are human and realistic. The portrait is believed to be
of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Francesco del Giocondo
(Scaillirez).

Installation

Contemporary art in which objects are

installed in a room to make a threedimensional sight.

Burdens work is an installation piece

because instead of drawing or painting
submarines, he hung them in a room from
strings to create a 3D effect that displays the
submarines like they are fish.

Islamic Art
Islamic Art developed starting from the
emergence of Islam as a religion in 600
AD. It was spread by many Islamic
civilizations that took over areas in the
Middle East, North Africa, and Asia.
Islamic Art often avoids portraying
humans, and focuses more on geometric
patterns, architecture, and calligraphy
(DeWitte, Larmann, Shields 324).

Renaissance Art
Renaissance art reflected the
culture during the ages of the
Renaissance throughout Europe.
The Renaissance lasted from
1400 to 1600. It shows the
sudden interest of the people
with education and the natural
world, improved with travel and
literacy. Also, religion played a
large role in peoples lives, but
Humanism emerged as an
important philosophical approach
on life as well (DeWitte,
Larmann, Shields 377).
