Jesus was a Capricorn

The night opened up

like a paper cup
and the world fell down at his knees
he was consoled
by the waves that rolled
and it set his great heart at ease.

Jesus was a Capricorn

his hands were tied
his hair was shorn
and the weeping world lay at his feet
Mary Magdalene was naked
Iscariot was hated
and the marshes were choked with peat.

When he was crowned

they heard the sound
as the thorns cut him to the bone
from the blood that fell
there sprung a well
that was for Peter's lips alone.

Jesus was a Capricorn

his hands were tied
his hair was shorn
and the weeping world lay at his feet
Mary Magdalene was naked
Iscariot was hated
and the marshes were choked with peat.

As dawn came on
his hope was gone
he longed for the centurion's steel
the son of man
the song of God
possessor of Aaron's rod
longed for a wound he could not heal.

Jesus was a Capricorn

his hands were tied
his hair was shorn
and the weeping world lay at his feet
Mary Magdalene was naked
Iscariot was hated
and the marshes were choked with peat.

They cut him down

the shroud was wound
his mother's tears pierced his side
the mourning doves
fled above
the ground gaped open wide.

Jesus was a Capricorn

his hands were tied
his hair was shorn
and the weeping world lay at his feet
Mary Magdalene was naked
Iscariot was hated
and the marshes were choked with peat.
