Research

In this document, it says that having a knowledge of the graphic surface, and
knowing that it is there is very useful and will help when looking at and including
different elements of texts and the literary.
Graphics became more popular with the increase in communication within the
media and the invention of the invention of the printing press in the sixteenth
century, and the rapid increase in
literacy at the end of the nineteenth
century. In 1993, van Peer said that
one should expect in the near future,
related to the growth in the use of
personal computers for word
processing a new boom in
typographic foregrounding.
In 2010 Zo Sadokierski used the term
hybrid novel to describe novels that
combine linguistic text with images
and typographic devices, creating a
hybrid dialog. This article uses the term hybrid texts because it discusses short
stories as well as novels.
Hybrid texts can be described as novels or short story collections that contain all
of the traditional elements of literary narrative, such as a plot, character, theme,
setting and voice. However, their narratives are made out of written text and
typographic devices as well as visual images.
Illustrations are not always a must needed part of the narrative because they
can be added or removed in different editions without significantly affecting
comprehension of the story. The illustrations are supplementary additions to the
primary text.
Omission is the meaning for where you would expect punctuation marks to be
left out, such as in the final chapter of James Joyces Ulysses (1922), which
includes only two full stops and therefore represented, at the time of writing, the
longest sentence in English literature.
Closure in a graphic means that there are no capital letters or full stops at the
start or end of sentences. This technique is often used at the end of a narrative
to leave the reader hanging.
These are the six main ways in which the visual elements in hybrid texts
overthrow conventions- exaggeration, Literation, repetition, deletion,
combination and the adoption of conventions from other forms.
Most creative writers today use desktop publishing, and many publish their work
in eBooks or on the Internet. This shows that importance of the hybrid as it
allows writers to choose their own style and way of how their work will be
presented visually.
