Have you ever heard about the movie director Quentin Tarantino? He is one of the most
favorite movie directors in the planet his first choice of movie was Reservoir of Dogs,
which is heavily related to the; story of criminals who are stuck in warehouse. Then, in
January 2016, he directed another movie that reminds people of Reservoir of Dogs. It is
Hateful 8. Some might say that these two movies are very similar, but there are three huge
differences between the two movies. It is about the social backgrounds, way of storytelling,
and the characters.

Firstly, the social backgrounds between the two movies are really different. The late 20th
century America was the kind of country that couldnt be defined into one word. Due to the
chaotic atmosphere, crime was not a wonderland story, and Reservoir dogs also keep the
track of criminals who plan for the massive jewel robbery. Since the movie was telling the
stories of criminals, many important parts of the plot are relying on betrayal, violence and
murder. However, Hateful 8 is based on the wild, wild western times of America. Several
characters of the movies are directly and indirectly related to the American civil war, and it
causes a few conflicts between them. Additionally, although the emancipation of black slaves
was made, the African-American character is still somewhat discriminated by others.

Secondly, the way of storytelling is very distinctive from one another. Reservoir dogs is
heavily based on character-based storytelling. Not even single character is widely exposed to
audiences, and due to that factor, there are many twists in the movie. Then, the movie shows
the suspicion between the robbers after the appearance of police, and the story goes to the

deep maze. On the other hand, Hateful 8 is very cultural-based storytelling. They are tied to
the worn-out shop because of the blizzard. In this process, one of the main characters dies,
and the conflicts begin between the people who had trouble before. For example, two of them
are between the Civil war veterans of each side, and between white people and the black male
character.

Lastly, the characters are totally different. Reservoir Dogs is portraying six jewelry
robbers. From the beginning of the movie, they call each other by the name form of Mr.
White, Mr. Orange, or in other colors. The planner of this robbery strictly prohibits them
from changing any information that can expose each other, and the audiences also does not
get informed who is doing what for why. After confronting the police, they are trying to find
the betrayer but nobody can trust each other. However, characters from Hateful 8 is telling
the audience about eight people who came from different region, but one-third of the movie is
describing about the details of four main characters. Although the other four characters are
appearing in the later part, they are introducing themselves only, and do not have other info to
back their identities. Later in the movie, they finally find out who is hiding their intention,
and finally kill the liar.

In a nutshell, although the two movies, Reservoir dogs and Hateful 8, from the Quentin
Tarantino is somewhat similar in a few points, there are three huge three differences between
them. It is about the social backgrounds, way of storytelling, and the characters. Since both
movies have their charm, I highly suggest you to check out these two movies and find out
other differences or similarities.
