Host$Day$$Field$Day$5$
On$Friday$6th$November$2015$it$was$my$turn$to$host$the$2015?2016$Dip$Ed$I.T.$group$at$my$
school.$Hosting$is$very$tiring$and$demanding.$Youre$constantly$worrying$about$Murphys$
Law.$You$dont$want$to$be$responsible$for$someones$lesson$going$wrong,$but$by$the$end$of$
the$day,$everything$would$have$worked$out$and$a$good$time$would$have$been$had$by$all.$$
Fridays$ field$ day$ reinforced$ something$ that$ I$ have$ always$ known$ about$ myself.$ I$ am$ a$
control$freak.$For$the$past$week,$my$colleagues$and$I$have$been$planning$this$day.$Mr.$Noel$
would$help$with$the$technical$parts,$Ms$Grannum$would$help$with$the$logistics$i.e.$getting$
the$classes$organized$so$that$they$are$prompt$and$Ms$Joseph$and$Mr.$Harry$would$take$care$
of$ breakfast$ and$ lunch.$ My$ form$ class$ and$ Mrs.$ Dean?Khan$ helped$ to$ get$ the$ SEED$ lab$
organized$and$ready.$On$host$day$I$was$supposed$to$just$relax$and$watch$my$fellow$Dip$Ed$
teachers$teach$and$allow$the$others$to$do$their$job.$Of$course,$my$neurosis$would$not$allow$
that$to$happen.$I$had$to$check$to$ensure$the$every$class$was$outside$waiting$and$that$the$
food$ arrived$ on$ time.$ My$ colleagues$ all$ executed$ their$ assignments$ with$ efficiency$ and$
aplomb$ as$ I$ had$ expected$ and$ were$ not$ a$ bit$ surprised$ to$ see$ me$ outside$ checking$ and$
double$ checking.$ As$ I$ have$ always$ said,$ the$ strength$ of$ PFWS$ is$ its$ staff.$ I$ had$ so$ many$
offers$of$help$that$I$ran$out$of$tasks$to$assign.$
The$ lessons$ on$ the$ day$ were$ also$ of$ very$ high$ quality.$ The$ theme$ for$ this$ field$ day$ was$
Problem$solving.$Glorenn$was$the$first$to$teach.$She$taught$my$class$(4.1)$a$concept$lesson$
on$problem$solving.$Her$lesson$was$just$the$type$they$enjoy.$They$are$a$very$lively$class$?$
they$ enjoy$ drama$ and$ talking$ and$ movement.$ Her$ lesson$ incorporated$ visuals,$ music$ and$
drama$which$were$quite$effective$and$enjoyable.$Tonight$she$sent$me$the$song$to$forward$

to$them$and$I$posted$it$on$our$whats$app$group.$Almost$immediately$they$began$posting$
recordings$of$themselves$singing$the$song.$$
Both$Shazir$and$Pat$taught$lessons$on$iteration.$Pat$taught$the$other$form$four$class$(4.2)$
while$Shazir$taught$our$form$five$class.$Pats$lesson$was$much$more$interactive$and$student$
centered.$She$incorporated$kinesthetic$activities$and$music$which$made$the$class$enjoyable$
and$engaging.$The$students$enjoyed$the$lesson$so$much$they$had$to$be$coaxed$to$leave$at$
the$end.$Shazirs$personality$is$better$suited$for$a$class$like$5.1.$They$are$more$mature$and$
better$behaved.$As$long$as$your$explanations$are$clear,$they$are$happy.$If$he$had$gotten$4.2,$
I$dont$think$the$outcome$would$have$been$so$good.$
After$ the$ lessons,$ we$ ate$ lunch$ and$ began$ our$ evaluation$ of$ the$ lessons.$ Two$ noteworthy$
points$ that$ Dr.$ Kamalodeen$ made$ that$ stuck$ with$ me$ are$ to$ use$ kinesthetic$ activities$ to$
make$topics$that$require$higher$order$thinking$skills$more$manageable$and$how$to$convert$
resources$from$no$tech$to$high$tech.$
After$our$evaluation,$we$proceeded$to$the$special$evaluation$that$Dr.$Kamalodeen$hinted$
at$to$the$group$the$previous$day.$I$took$the$group$on$a$drive$through$the$industrial$parts$of$
Point$Fortin,$passing$by$Atlantic$LNG$and$then$Trinmar.$We$then$drove$to$the$Clifton$Hill$
Beach$ facilities$ where$ we$ walked$ on$ the$ beach$ and$ took$ pictures.$ We$ then$ entered$ the$
beach$ facilities$ where$ we$ were$ given$ a$ tour.$ We$ finished$ around$ four$ o$ clock$ and$ I$
continued$my$tour,$driving$through$three$more$villages$(Clifton$Hill,$Mahaica$and$Techier)$
to$escape$the$tedious$Friday$traffic$in$the$borough.$$
It$was$a$very$tiring$day$but$so$worthwhile$and$enjoyable.$I$enjoyed$having$the$group$at$my$
school$ and$ getting$ the$ opportunity$ to$ show$ them$ my$ hometown.$ My$ last$ task$ now$ is$ to$

bake$a$few$batches$of$brownies$for$the$classes$that$I$used$to$show$my$appreciation$to$them$
and$also$to$honor$their$blackmail.$$
