TRANSITION INTO THE NURSERY POLICY

PURPOSE:
To ensure a smooth transition into the nursery for every child.

RATIONALE:
To support children under two and their families as they start at angelCare by giving them
guidelines to follow to ensure a successful transition.

PROCEDURE/GUIDELINES:

• Every child will be assigned a primary caregiver


• Parents/caregivers will be asked to fill in an “All about me” sheet that will provide
information to the primary caregiver about the child’s routines, likes, dislikes and
about the child’s temperament and personality.
• All parents/caregivers are expected to visit and spend time at the centre with their
child at least 3 weeks prior to the child’s official start date.
• First week parent/caregiver will visit 2-3 times, staying with the child for 30 minutes
or more.
• Second week parent/caregiver and child visit 2-3 times, first visit stay with the child
for 15 minutes then leave for 10 minutes. Second and third visit stay for 15 minutes
then leave for 30 minutes.
• Third week parent/caregiver and child visit 2-3 times; first one or two visits again
staying with the child for the first 15 minutes then leave for an hour or so. Second or
third visit child stays for morning or afternoon session.
• The first 2-3 days after the child officially starts (if possible) days could be
shortened if the child is booked for a full day or full week.
