The cordillera region experiences natural disaster every year.

The province of
Benguet is always affected by strong typhoons which brought major destructions to the
community. Landslide is very prone since we are located on mountains area. One part of
Benguet that was strongly hit by typhoon PEPENG was in Palew, Tublay where there
was a big and wide landslide along the highway or road. Reports also say that there
where houses which where totally damaged. And even worst was some lives of people
were gone. It was cause by continuous strong rainfall that softens the soil resulting to soil
erosion or landslides and floods. This brought a great impact not only to the residents but
also to the other part of the region especially to the families of the casualties and victims.
Moreover, farmers were greatly affected too because most of their crops and other
agricultural products were damaged giving them the burdens on how to pay their
expenses and how to cope up or start again. The destruction of plants and vegetation
caused the prices to go up in the market.

There are common factors contributing to these disasters. CLIMATE CHANGE is

the number on which promote landslide in the other ways. People are cutting trees and
burning forest for KAINGIN as their livelihood. Economic boom also has an effect like
road widening or other infrastructure projects. Another is improper disposal of garbage.
People must learn to be environmentally friendly to protect and save our mother earth.
