India’s first controlled atmosphere
based facility project executed by Voltas
for red delicious apple for
Adani Agrifresh Ltd.
Location: Himachal Pradesh (Sainj, Rohru, Rampur) Capacity: 6000 MT per store x 3 location
This is path breaking project bringing viability to access apples all round, benefiting the consumer M/s
‘Adani Agrifresh Ltd. has developed and promoted this facility.
The project comprises of 4 segments:
1. Controlled Atmosphere System
2, Refrigeration System to Maintain Temperature & Relative Humidity critically.
3. Puf Panels structure.
4, Grading & Packing machineries.
Our scope was to offer the complete refrigeration plant on turnkey, while supporting the parameters of
controlled atmosphere.
The fundamental principles underline the following business model
Apples one of the premium range table-top fruits across urban & semi-urban geography. The shelf-life of
red delicious apple is upto 2.5-3 months maximum if stored in a cold storage. Instead post plucking the
apple; if it undergoes the it storage in controlled atmosphere based storage supported by refrigeration
system, The shelfllfe enhancement goes upto 9 months.
This principle nourishes the great business propositions, thereby offering the opportunity to cater the
markets at even off seasons.
Plant Details:
In order to maintain the product temperature at 2°C with an environment of 95% RH, the refrigeration
system is selected based on cooling and humidification principle. Glycol based system along with ammo-
nia refrigeration plant (screw compressor packages of 165 TR x 5 Nos, Evaporative Condensef) has been
offered to ensure the critical control over the functional parameters and best power efficient. The chilled
Glycol is circulated through specialized AHUs (Hans Guntner, Germany) to deliver the temperature and
humidity consistently. In all 42 chambers per facility were refrigerated with this plant. The cor
works on PLC based system connected to SCADA. This is the 3rd consecutive year of opi
the plant has delivered results consistently exceeding the expectation of the end user.
