MAP, or the Measure of Academic Progress, is a
computerized adaptive test which helps teachers,
parents, and administrators improve learning for all
students and make informed decisions to promote a
child's academic growth. - NWEA
Dear First Grade Families,
This week your child will be beginning their second
session of MAP testing this year. These tests provide me
with a diagnosis of students strengths and weaknesses,
and help me improve my instruction. The results
effectively help me identify the needs of exceptional
students, and show areas where enrichment and
support need to be provided.
MAP testing is also a powerful tool for monitoring
student growth over time. I will be able to see the
margin of student improvement this year since we last
took the test.
I am, however, also aware that this is just a snapshot of
your childs learning, and does not tell me everything
they know and have learned this year. What makes your
child unique cannot be assessed by a test. It is our daily
learning experiences that show me all the amazing and
wonderful things that make your child so special.
