Pitch Assignment

For my inquiry project, I am studying the lives of Nazi soldiers. After researching, I hope
to better understand what it was like to work under Hitler, the views soldiers really had, and how
life was after the war. Holocaust testimonies are famously portrayed through the eyes of a Jewish
survivor, but we rarely see the antagonists point of view. The goal of my project is to see the
Holocaust from this different angle and attempt to understand it. My project will also look into
how powerful leaders can be. I have always been very curious about how the Nazi soldiers were
able to do what they did and carry on for so long; how they justified murder and partook in it.
For sources, I plan on using Nazi S.S. testimonies. This will be my primary source.
Though they are somewhat rare, I think they are the best source and will give emotional backing
to the information. For a secondary source, I plan to look into documents about the regulations
Nazi soldiers lived under. I will also look at stories of Nazi heroes and stories of the more dark
ones. For my scholarly source, I rented out a book from the library called, Nazi Ideology and
Ethics. It looks at the morality and beliefs of the Holocaust era. I have already found a few
quotes from the book that go along with my subject.
For the physical project, I plan on making a 3D model of a Nazi S.S. soldier. I plan to
make him out of styrofoam and paper mch. I hope to be able to hollow out his head and put a
removable brain in the center. I will fashion a hat similar to the uniforms to cover the cut. I will
probably make the brain out of foam as well. Then I plan to split the brain in halves and write
different beliefs on each hemisphere. Also, under a badge or pocket in around the chest, I hope to
make an opening compartment, where I can take out a styrofoam heart. I plan to write the issues
of morality here. The swastika band on the left arm should fold out and I will write regulations
and rules placed on the soldiers here. I feel like this design meets all of the Successful Products

Will requirements and will show my thinking very well. I am excited to actually get creative in
a class!
